****SPECIAL SURPRISE****

As a little teaser, I am going to post on my blog the first chapter to each of the five short stories in my latest release. I have loved these characters for quite some time. I’m so happy to be sharing them with my followers.

Wellsie’s Dilemma is Book 5 and tells the story of Wellsie Sharp. Wellsie has always been the ambitious type. When an opportunity to run her own operation presents herself, she literally finds herself having to choose between the family she has created and her career. During her decision making process, the key to capturing the team’s nemesis presents itself. What will be Wellsie’s choice and will the team finally have the opportunity to close the “Lang” chapter?

Here is chapter one:

It didn’t take the crew long to get their gear and put their plan in motion. Once the idiot, Wilde, had been caught for the second time and recognized he was going to be kept by Trig along with the rest of the crew he’d screwed over, he sang a different tune than before. It turned out Wilde had a regular hankering for Indian food. Everywhere the man went he had to have a spot that he would partake of his favorite eats. That’s how Trig had found him.

During their “private one-on-one time” together, Trig had apparently let Wilde know that Brian had given the go ahead to put a bullet between the man’s eyes if he didn’t produce a direct lead to Lang. That lead was what they were following now.

Hounder walked alongside Wellsie and nudged her shoulder. She turned slightly to look up at him and felt the blush creep across her face in response to the heat of his gaze.

“You’re not allowed to look at me like that right now. I need to be focused on the task at hand. Plus, I just started the Depo shot. Unless you have the Fort Knox of condoms to contain your little swimmers, you’re not getting at me until we are safely ensconced in our home.”

“Aww, Wells baby, you know I get all riled up anytime I see you in full assassin mode. It’s one of my major weaknesses.”

“Hound dog … baby, my general presence is your major weakness.”

The man smiled and she felt herself weakening at the sight of it. He still had that ability even after three kids and years together. As they approached the van, she shook her head before she made one final attempt to thwart his advances.

“I’ll make a note of it for tonight. For now, you go ride with Ghost. I’m riding with Trig.”

“I’m not liking this arrangement. You know this.”

Nodding her head, she gave him a playful smile. Hounder bent down and peered into her eyes. Wellsie almost caved in. Clearing her throat and visibly shaking herself, she pushed at his rock hard chest.

“Go. You know it’s for the best.”

He gave her a lopsided grin before giving her a quick kiss and jogging toward the other van.

“I almost had you.”

“Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.”

His responding chuckle reached her ears as she climbed into the back of the second van.

“Gotta love that man.”

“So you say.”

She cast a look at Trig and saw that he was smiling.

“It’s the truth.”

“Know it. Looks good on you, One Shot.”

“Thanks.”

“Bastard always was too hot to handle.”

“Yeah? I think I handle him well.”

“You do. That you do.”

“How do you stand to be in the same room with him and all of that …”

“Cuban sex appeal? It’s a daunting experience and takes great skill. It’s also one that I’m not alone in having to deal with. You’ve seen our men. A group of models this lot is. It’s nothing for my sex drive to hit overdrive in mere seconds. I’ve just got to learn to curb it so I can cease being the baby making factory.”

Trig’s sharp laugh/cough earned him a glare from her.

“Not likely, One Shot.”

“You’re just as bad as him. I believe that fucker is trying to build a small army using my cooch and womb.”

Sabrina’s and Trig’s laughs filled the van. She didn’t try to hold back her own.

“Pregnancy suits you. Sam says it every time you are full, plump, and round.”

“Trig, I’ve only been pregnant twice and I’m trying to hold off on a repeat offense. Suiting me or not doesn’t make me want to remain in a constant state of pregnancy to maintain that beauty that everyone says I have during those nine months. I’m not some mare doling out prize foals in exchange for a good lay.”

Trig nearly choked on the water he was drinking.

“Oh fuck. One Shot, you can’t say shit like that when I’m drinking and/or fucking driving.”

Sabrina was trying to cover up her laugh as she spoke to Wellsie.

“I didn’t know you were so funny. You’re always so serious.”

“It’s my resting bitch face, isn’t it?”

Trig snorted and shook his head. Sabrina’s face screwed up with a look of confusion marring her features. Wellsie tossed her a smile as the van came to a stop.

“You don’t have a resting bitch face.”

A bark of laughter came from the driver’s seat and it was Wellsie’s turn to shake her head.

“It was a joke, hon. We’re here.”

Trig hopped out but not before calling out, “Game faces, people.”

Yes, it was time for them to focus. They had Lang balls to hunt. Wellsie snickered. She recalled B.B. once saying to Isa that she wouldn’t mind seeing the guy strung up by his danglers. Wellsie would love to make good on that request for her friend and the true reason behind her joining the team.

* * *

Wellsie took out the sketch that Proph had put together based upon the description that Paul provided them. She was watching the crowd as she got into position. The glint from Trig’s gun told her that he was in place on the roof directly across from her. Sabrina, Charlie, and Hounder were on the ground inside the airport.

Lang was set to board a flight for Washington in a few hours. Paul had claimed he didn’t have any information on why Lang was heading to Washington and not remaining in Nevada where Ghost and the rest of the team were. The man had confirmed that Lang had been targeting them so that he could get them out of the way.

“Sight.”

Trig’s voice was as clear as if he were sitting right next to her and not the hundred or so yards he was from her. He was in place and had eyes on Sabrina. Wellsie focused her sight on her scope and saw that Hounder was in position as well as Charlie.

“Seen.”

Ghost came on the comms with a slight bit of static. That wasn’t supposed to be there.

“Interference.”

She agreed with Trig’s assessment. Something wasn’t right. If there was something causing crackles in their comms, it meant there was another set of comms online. It was a set of comms that were closely related to the frequency Proph had put in place for them. There was only one other group that had that set of comms.

“Proph, scan your formula.”

“Already on it.”

Wellsie recalled Hounder stating the face in the drawing looked vaguely familiar. He couldn’t recall from where so they’d all let it go. The feeling of uneasiness made her wish they would’ve taken another moment before venturing out on this journey. There was a bigger picture and Wellsie knew it, but she couldn’t figure out what it was. It rubbed her the wrong way.

“Out. Command!”

Ghost’s command for the team to return but not to their base of operations meant something was going on. That uneasy feeling increased exponentially as she packed up her gear and hauled ass to get back to the van.

Wellsie's Dilemma

“She turned to the sunlight And shook her yellow head,And whispered to her neighbor- -Winter is dead.”

****SPECIAL SURPRISE****

As a little teaser, I am going to post on my blog the first chapter to each of the five short stories in my latest release. I have loved these characters for quite some time. I’m so happy to be sharing them with my followers.

Charlie’s Activation is Book 4 and tells the story of Charles Hitchens. The story of the youngest member of the crew and his surprise initiation into the field agent status. His unlikely partner surprises him when she goes against her “sex and nothing more” rule. He was all for it because he can’t have anything serious in his life even if it is the best experience he’s ever had. Is it willing to let go of it just because his hands are tied?

Here is chapter one:

“Hold on a minute! You want me to impersonate a captain. I’m a petty officer. Do you know what that means?”

Charlie’s voice raised an octave as the details of the mission were relayed to him by the lead dog in charge, Brian “Ghost” Wallace. This was something he’d been wanting for the last two years. Taking off to save Brian and Trig a few months back finally nudged his superior officer in the right direction. It helped that every other member of the team endorsed his request. He was finally taking point on an op and he was scared shitless. He was especially frightened to death of the fact that he was being sent in impersonating a rank well above his pay grade.

“Yes. I know damn well what that means. Who better to impersonate someone of that caliber than a person that has had to take orders from one?”

Ghost looked as if he were running short on patience. Charlie hated when the head of the crew got like that. It usually meant that there would be hell to pay for someone soon. He didn’t need this opportunity to be snatched away before he was able to showcase what he’d learned from each of the members of the team and prove that he was more than a fact checker.

It still didn’t stop him from feeling a great desire to piss himself in that moment. He had to stop his thoughts from going the way they were. There was a lot riding on the information that he needed to obtain. He was going to have to get over himself. Charlie just had to make one more attempt at getting the magnitude of his “part” out into the open. It was more for his benefit than anyone else’s.

“I don’t think you get this. I’ve always been that guy in the background. I’ve never been at the forefront because I didn’t want to be the focus of anyone’s attention. I think I might be happy staying in the place of the follower.”

With an exasperated sigh, Ghost stood and began to make his way around the large conference room table.

“Charlie Boy. Charles. The team needs this. You are going to have to be the one to do this. We’re counting on you. Plus, you won’t be totally alone.”

“Really? You just said that no one else on the team can go in because they’re all too well known. Plus, half the team is too pregnant to enter the fray. Who else do you have? What ace in the hole is getting ready to take on the role of my sidekick?”

Just then a leggy blonde with honey tones in her skin and hair walked into the room. The waves of that hair fell around her shoulders. The hazel brown of her eyes sparkled like jewels. Charles’ body was at full attention and in major response mode as the curvaceous woman sauntered into the room.

Ace is exactly what he was thinking. Just so you know I’m nobody’s sidekick, sweetheart. Hey Ghost. Missed you.”

Charlie didn’t miss the “humph” that came from Isa’s direction. Neither did her husband, if the playful smirk that crossed his lips was any indicator.

“Yeah, I know, Ace, with every bullet thus far. Charles Hitchens meet Sabrina Allen. She will be going on this op with you as our in-house back up. Ace, Charles Hitchens or Charlie Boy needs to lead on this one. You can cue him, but it is his to work. He knows the territory better than you do.”

Brian moved to stand next to Trig and they shared a look. Charlie didn’t understand it, but Ghost nodded in response to whatever the unspoken statement was.

“I just bet he does. Can’t wait to see what kind of hands on approach happens with this one.”

Sabrina moved directly in front of Charlie and deliberately rubbed her body against his. There may have been some snickers, but he didn’t hear them because all functioning organs shut down as one rose to the occasion.

“Oh shit! Charlie Boy is in trouble. Dammit, if I weren’t already in love then I might …”

“Please Hounder finish that thought. I want you to finish that statement as I tote around yet another growth of your sperm in my belly. It will be your last statement and child.”

“Retract the claws, Sharp baby. You might want to be a little nicer to me this time around. Tommy Jr. looks exactly like me. Do you want our little girl looking the same?”

Wellsie smirked and produced her knife.

“I don’t mind the looks, handsome. It’s the nature of the man that I call into question. If what’s mine goes hunting elsewhere, believe me, you’ll wish you never had.”

“Aces!”

“Well, now we know how she got her name.”

Sabrina’s smile was huge as she turned her wattage in Hounder’s direction.

“Hell yes! I knew I was going to love it here. Are all of the women as fiery as she is? If so, I’m about to have a fucking blast!” Sabrina pumped her fist in the air before turning and grabbing hold to Charlie’s collar. “Come on, Charlie Boy. Let’s get to your training. Everything we do has to be second nature if this thing is going to be believable. I suggest we fuck to get the sexual tension out of the way. See you later, guys.”

Charlie felt like his balls were in his throat. Hounder’s nervous chuckle let him know that Wellsie hadn’t removed the blade from the base of the man’s nut sack. Trig’s tip of the hat said he knew better than to speak with Sam in the area. Apparently, Brian was immune to Sabrina’s charms or Isa’s presence ensured his inability to respond.

Instead, Brian called the rest of the team back into the main conference room. Some had dispersed to make some phone calls as part of their information gathering projects. No one else appeared to care that the woman who was just introduced to the group had stated the two of them, he and she, were getting ready to fuck and “get it over with.”

He should be worried, but he wasn’t. No, Charlie was on high alert and hopeful that this woman would make good on her statement.

Sabrina led them to a fancy town car equipped with a driver. The man nodded in response to the woman’s nod. She slid in first allowing her exposed legs to be the last thing in the backseat of the car. Her already short black skirt slid further up her legs. The view had Charlie trying his damndest not to swallow his own tongue. As soon as he was seated, she pushed a lever to put up the partition that blocked the view of the driver to the backseat.

“Morris, thirty minutes then to the place. Yes?”

“Yes ma’am,” was the driver’s immediate response before he disappeared behind the dark glass.

“Okay. Let’s see.”

She moved like a cat. Her mouth was on his and her tongue was sweeping in before the glass was completely in place. She moaned softly and he jumped in his pants.

“Like that, do you?”

Her hand had been placed on the seat, right between his thighs. She must have felt the movement. That same hand moved to undo his belt, jean button, then his zipper. Her hand was on him and stroking his length as if she held ownership of it. In that moment, she might as well have tattooed her name on it because he damn sure wasn’t any longer in control. When her mouth descended, he groaned. With the first flick of her tongue, he almost jolted out of his seat. The motion had him just that excited. He’d never had a woman as forward with him as she was.

They’d known each other five minutes and she already had hold of his balls. The beauty of the warmth of her mouth and the little flicks of the head of him had him wanting more. Charlie groaned and felt the tickle of her breath as she chuckled. His hands were in her hair as she moved to take him fully into her mouth. Sabrina let him guide her for a few moments before she took control of her motions again.

Lifting her head, she moved to sit back on the seat. Slipping her panties off, she guided his hand between her legs. One leg fell to the back of the seat, as the other hung off the other side. He was allowed to stroke and thumb her clit before having two of his fingers licked by her sensationally warm tongue, then guided between her legs and deep within her. After a few moments, she led those same fingers to his mouth and had him suck them off before taking them into her own. She produced a condom and put it on before straddling him. Once she was there, Sabrina kissed him long and hard. All he could do was enjoy the ride. Keeping a steady yet fast pace, they both soon fell into a feeling of fucking oblivion. He came down from the high of his embarrassingly quick orgasm to her fixing her skirt. She slid him back into the security of his briefs before sliding her panties into his pocket.

“That was fucking hot,” he breathed out.

“But wait, there’s more.”

The car stopped. Had it been thirty minutes already? She stepped from the car and walked around to his side. When they had both exited the car, he realized they were in front of a townhouse. It was a pretty standard looking home from the outside. Taking his hand, she led him up the stairs to the porch. Producing a key from a purse he hadn’t realized she had, she unlocked the door. Before the door was secured, she was pulling clothes from her body.

“You can have me any way you want me today, tonight, and tomorrow morning. Every surface in this house is available for your use. After that, we get down to business. I figure, if we’re selling possessiveness, then you have to possess me. You can’t do that if you don’t know every inch of my body like the back of your hand. Now strip, Charlie Boy, and fuck me until you can’t fuck me anymore then fuck me again.”

“With pleasure.”

For the next thirty-three hours, that is what he did. There wasn’t a surface of that two-story home that hadn’t been touched by one or more parts of their body.

“Fuck if that shit wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. I’m going to allow you another hour, Petty Officer. I need to know when I ache it’s because I’ve been filled by you.”

“More than a mouthful. It doesn’t matter which opening you take me. I’ll fill it as many times as you want me to.”

“I can definitely vouch for that.”

His lips met hers and he couldn’t get between her legs fast enough. Their phones rang simultaneously as he began to take her against the wall of the main hall. He was pounding into her as the familiar ringtone that said Brian was calling rang out in the house. They shared a look that said they weren’t stopping until they’d climaxed. His first thought was for them to finish what they’d started, but knew that they didn’t have time for those kinds of antics. They would both have to settle for one more climax before hightailing it back to headquarters.

“Harder. Please, Charlie Boy. Just a little bit …”

“Come on. You’re there. I know what’s mine. Give. Me. My. Fucking. REWARD!”

They both detonated at the same time their phones began to ring again.

“Damn, if he doesn’t have perfect timing.”

Charlie slid from her and felt a slight bit of pride mixed with shame as he felt the evidence that he hadn’t been wearing a condom begin to run down her thigh. He looked at Sabrina and she just shrugged.

“We will deal with that when it becomes an issue. I am not going to say I regret any parts of what just happened. It felt too damn good to say it was wrong.”

With that, she turned to grab her ringing phone from the floor. He swatted her ass making her yelp as she answered.

“Allen.”

He walked over and slid his hand under her chin. Kissing her, he moved to hit the speaker icon on her phone.

“… enough time. I hope the two of you have completed your fuck fest because we’ve got work to do. Your asses need to be clothed and here within twenty. Done?”

“Yes Sir.”

Both had responded at the same time. He could just see Brian shaking his head. The line went dead right after they responded.

“I believe I need to get you clean, Ace. I want to put one in the hole before I do that.”

“We have twenty minutes. I don’t think …” she looked down and changed her response. “Never mind. Let’s get that pole working, shall we?”

As promised, they were in the offices in twenty minutes. Their hair was still wet, but they were both clean, clothed and beyond satisfied.

****SPECIAL SURPRISE****

As a little teaser, I am going to post on my blog the first chapter to each of the five short stories in my latest release. I have loved these characters for quite some time. I’m so happy to be sharing them with my followers.

Sam’s Communication is Book  and tells the story of Samantha Davis. The story delves into the lives of Trig and Taps. Both are seeming happy individuals and work will together in every aspect of their lives. the two have been there for one another . Even armed with that knowledge, there is something that Sam is keeping from Trig. Will she make the right choice and confess or will she hold fast to her secret long enough to lose him?

It shares how he brought the team together and a little-known fact about his past. The woman who held his heart is now a member of his new team. How shall this man deal with working with someone who chose to walk away from him years ago?

Here is chapter one:

“Sam, it’s been a whole month. What’s going on?”

B.B’s voice came through the phone loud and clear. It wasn’t the only thing that came over the airwaves. Her concern seeped through just as clearly.

“Aww. Look at the soon-to-be ‘mama’ again showing concern for someone else. I’m touched.”

B.B.’s derisive snort came through the phone just before she verbally squelched any sentimental moment the two of them might have had.

“Woman please! This call is purely for selfish reasons alone.”

Sam covered the smile that was threatening as if she could be seen on her phone. It wasn’t as if they were video chatting.

“Enlighten me.”

A loud sucking noise came through the phone before B.B. began to speak.

“One, you said this thing you were doing wasn’t going to take long. I believe it was said to have a ‘two week minimum’ fact collecting time frame on it. Two, my scheduled check up is in a few days. A certain doctor friend stated they would be around for the procedure which is exactly thirty-six hours after that appointment. Third, you are supposed to be on the committee for this surprise event that Brian’s putting together. It was your idea. I’ve been roped into it as a stand-in and I seriously don’t appreciate it. When are you getting back? Why are you dodging everyone else’s calls, including Trig’s?”

That was the million dollar question and the one she’d been avoiding like a pregnant woman avoids the scale. She just wasn’t ready to give up on her mission. All of the members of her team had told her it was a lost cause, but she couldn’t believe that. The man had been rerouting her and rescheduling their “get togethers” since the moment she touched down in Washington. Sam should take the hint, but she wouldn’t be the woman that he raised her to be if she had.

“I’m not ready to give up on getting him alone in a room, B.B. Everyone else is telling me to let this go or we’ll figure out another way to get the information. I’m actually getting pissed off because I know for a fact that he knows something. It has to be huge too because he’s done everything in his power to make sure he is unavailable. Plus, my being in the area has allowed me to touch bases with some of my old connections who recently had interactions with my brother. I really believe what we thought was going on and Jeremy’s role in it might not be accurate. This isn’t his little sister talking either. This is the investigative individual who wants someone to answer for involving my kid in some fucked up bid for power and money. Plus, I made contact with the guy who was supposed to be my brother’s boss and he told me that Jeremy left his company years ago to become some big wig with one of those lettered outfits.”

“Are you saying that Jeremy may have been working with the CIA or FBI or something?” B.B.’s side of the call went quiet for so long that Sam had to pull the phone from her ear to make sure she hadn’t dropped the call. “I don’t know, Sam. You might be reaching. I’ll ask Eli to check into any connection like that, but we may be digging into an empty ditch here.”

“I know. I’m just trying to make sense of all of this. Hey, do you know if Proph had any findings on Jeremy looking into my ex? One of the females that Jeremy was close with implied that he was trying to find answers on what Paul was doing while I was at the office. I’d assumed the jerk was finding ways to be better at his job since I knew his goal was to work directly with my father. Apparently, I might have been wrong about that, amongst other things.”

“Yeah babe? She wants to know if you have anything that said J. Wilkens might’ve been investigating P. Wilde.” She heard movement before a gruff voice could be heard then B.B.’s rare giggle. “You’re an idiot. If this kid comes out growling, it will be all your fault. You animal. He just handed me a folder.”

“What was that about Proph being an animal?”

B.B. chuckled before responding. “Oh, the only male in the house has decided that he wants to prep the soon-to-be other male in the house for some of his crazy ass antics like the growling he just did. He tends to growl then place kisses over my stomach every time he sees me. I swear this kid attempts to respond every time he does it. His foot or hand gets to moving across my skin and the big goof that my husband is just beams with some moronic pride.” Sam heard him yell something but couldn’t quite make it out. “It is too moronic. I will not have this house turned into a three-ring circus. Oh shit. I sounded just like my father just then. You see what you did!”

Sam was outright laughing by the time B.B. yelled the last statement.

“Okay. What’s in the folder?”

“There may be something to your theory. There are notes here. I don’t know if they’re official or not, but someone was trying to figure out what your ex was doing during his down time. Do you want me to share this with the team while you try again to reach your father?”

“If you don’t mind, I’d be ever so grateful. I promise this is my last attempt. I’ll be flying out this evening. I think Ming is over the whole hotel experience. Plus, I believe we’re both missing a certain sharp shooter something fierce.”

“He misses you guys, too. He’s grumpier than normal when you aren’t around. I’ll bring the team up to speed and see you tomorrow. The line will revert back to unsecure as soon as we hang up. Be safe.”

“You too. I’ll brief you guys when I’m back in the state. Have Proph kiss the belly for me, will you?”

“Yeah, I think he’s got that covered already. Get away. Damn. I can’t get anything done if you’re attached to me and don’t even attempt to make that dirty.”

B.B. laughed and forced a bye into the receiver before the line went dead. If Sam knew Proph, he was probably torturing her by tickling her. What she wouldn’t do was think about what he was tickling to get her to elicit the sound that she’d made before their call ended.

Taking a deep breath, Sam picked up the phone again and dialed the number she knew by heart.

“General Wilkens office, Leslie speaking, how may I assist you?”

“Hey Leslie, this is Samantha Wil …”

“Oh, hi Sam. I was just getting ready to give you a call. Are you and Ming Nai available for lunch this afternoon? Your father has a two-hour opening and is looking forward to seeing you. He wants to send a car to pick you up. He also told me to make sure it’s set for your favorite place to make up for the fact that he hasn’t been available this month.”

Sam looked at the phone then back out the window she’d been periodically peering out of. That was a welcome change. In fact, it had been the welcome she’d been initially expecting when she’d shown up four weeks ago.

“Good. Sounds good to me. He wouldn’t happen to be available right now, would he?”

“I’m sorry, Ms. Wilkens, he’s not. He’s walking into a meeting right now.”

“Figures,” Sam mumbled to herself. “What time should we expect the car?”

“12:15. Oh, should I have given that to you in military time? Your father has been working on making sure everyone around here understands both.”

Sam smiled as she responded. “No, Leslie, it’s not necessary. I understand both, so we’re good. Thank you. Have a nice day.”

They said their goodbyes and Sam began getting her and Ming set to meet with her father in the few hours they had before the two would be picked up. This time Sam wasn’t going to tell Ming Nai that they were going to see her grandfather. The last thing she wanted to do was deal with an upset little girl as they traveled back home if her father disappointed them again.

* * *

A few hours later and Sam was getting more pissed off by the second. Every attempt to garner her father’s attention long enough to focus on one of her questions was thwarted.

Sam had forgotten that her father had been too busy with everything Paul and possibly Jeremy that he hadn’t had an opportunity to see his granddaughter since they rescued her. A light bulb flashed on as she sat watching the two of them interact.

“The only reason you agreed to meet with me is due to the fact that you found out I wasn’t alone, isn’t it?”

Her father gave her a look that told her he wasn’t going to spend his lunch answering a bunch of different probing questions from his daughter.

“Jiiji, are we going to see your office before mama and me have to leave today?”

Jiiji is short for ojiisan and baaba is short for obaasan. The terms mean grandfather and grandmother in turn. Those are the Japanese terms that Ming Nai latched on to when Sam’s mother began teacher her little girl the language. Ming Nai has so much of her grandmother in her and takes after the woman that Sam couldn’t help but name her daughter something with an Asian flare. Trying to please both aspects of the family proved to be difficult. Her mother finally relented that she would give in on the name if she was allowed to teach her granddaughter about Japanese customs and the language. Paul hadn’t cared about that part because his parents had cared about the naming of the child. The education of said child was given solely to the parental unit.

Sam watched as her father smiled down at Ming Nai and found herself feeling a little jealous of her daughter. There was a time when she received those looks of adoration from her father. Over the last few months all Sam had received from her father was the cold shoulder and glares of disgust or guilt. Sometimes, she couldn’t determine the difference.

“Do you want to, Little Bug? When are you getting on that big plane to go back home, so I know when we can go see my office?”

Sam knew what her father was doing. He was trying to deduce how long she’d be around to bother him. His salt and pepper hair looked like more gray had appeared in it since the last time she’d seen him a week or two ago.

“Tonight. Right mama?”

“Yes, little beauty, we are. Dad?”

With an exasperated sigh, he looked at her and said, “What you’re inquiring about I have no knowledge to share. This may be something you should probably let go of. Besides, I didn’t encourage this team to come together to investigate this matter. The crew was set in motion for a retrieval mission. You gathered, you concurred, you obtained, and now you should move on.”

Sam blinked at the vehemence of her father’s tone. She decided to match his with one of her own, but added a sugary sweetness to it so Ming wouldn’t catch on.

“The team wasn’t put together for a one-off either. You don’t put that kind of group together and expect them not to have a desire to do more, be more. The intimate nature of this mission condones every action the team has taken. I wish the same could be said for others.”

“If you knew, you might change how you feel about the entire thing.”

What was that supposed to mean?

Her father shut down after that. They communicated with Ming Nai but not with one another. It remained that way for the duration of their visit. Their hug was purely for the benefit of putting on a show for Ming. Nothing had been resolved save for the fact that her father didn’t want her investigating the issue. Later that evening, they said their goodbyes. She and Ming Nai grabbed their belongings from the hotel, checked out, made their way to the airport, then their flight.

They were homeward bound and Sam couldn’t help but be thrilled about it. She missed her friends and the family unit they’d created within the crew. Guess there was truth to that saying, “Family isn’t defined by the blood in your veins, but by those that are there for you when you need them the most.”

Her bloodline kind of sucked right now, so she was living proof of that quote.

When Brian was thinking about who he would need for the mission he was assigned, he knew Trig was the first person to call. His Marine Corps brother would be there for him no matter what was needed.

The second on Brian’s short list was a guy that saved his ass in a bar in Ireland. The Cuban born, dark-brown-skinned male had stood out in the crowd. The women seemed to flock around the guy after hearing him speak his order for a set of shots, the hostess’ phone number, and a beer for the lady that was walking to the restroom. The woman’s sway of her hips had become more pronounced as the bartender snorted. At the time, Brian had shaken his head at the antics of the women and the response they had to the man. It was that response that had saved Brian’s life.

Brian and a mammoth-sized giant had gotten into a heated argument about soccer. Both had been drinking and quite possibly had downed one too many Guinnesses before arguing the same damn point. Thomas “Hounder” Madison had gotten one of the “lassies” that had been hanging on his every word to distract the big man with her “massive melons.” Those were Hounder’s words, not Brian’s.

The woman walked up to the “Mass Tech,” grabbed his hand, and slapped that huge paw of his under her shirt. When she began to react to his flicking thumb, the Samoan’s attention remained on her and Hounder walked Brian right out the front door. It wasn’t until later in the evening that Brian realized he’d left the case he’d been carrying at the bar. That was a sure sign that he’d had too much to drink. Brian never left signs that he’d been present in any area, not even his home. He knew he had to rectify that oversight. Prepping himself for the fight of his life, he was surprised to learn when he’d returned to the bar that the staff of the bar were looking for a way to carry the then-dead Samoan out of the building.

It was in that moment that he understood who he was dealing with. Brian would later learn that, Hounder, the former Army Ranger, was also a consultant that handled sticky situations. “Mass Tech,” the Samoan, was one of the most wanted “pimps” in the area. He ran a prostitution ring that also used some of the women to traffic drugs in and out of the country, dead and alive. The Samoan had apparently pissed off the wrong person, or the wrong person’s daughter was initiated because the Samoan and several of his associates were coughing up dirtballs that night. Hounder, the Cuban Killer, had been called in to “take care of things,” which explained why the man was no more. The sound of Hounder’s voice brought him back to the present.

“Ghost, you have got to stop denying the truth.”

“What truth?” Brian stopped his brisk, forward pace, placed one hand over his chest and the other on Hounder’s shoulder causing the other man to stop as well. “Are you finally coming out of the closet?”

“Shut the fuck up. You know I enjoy the … canal. The boat that rides along it is not my speed.”

Isabelle’s short, dark brown hair floated around her ears as she chuckled. She brought up the rear of the group. “That boat probably only strokes the surface. No person could get a good ride out of that thing. I feel sad for your conquests. I hope that’s not the reason they call you Hounder.”

Hounder stepped a little closer to Brian before whispering, “Are you sure she’s integral to the team dynamic?”

“Oh snap, two big words for Madison, y’all. Integral and dynamic were used and in the correct manner. We have to mark a calendar.”

The jovial, masculine voice belonged to the one they called Charlie Boy. He was one of the youngest of the new recruits. He’d only been in the area for two days, so he wasn’t included on any of their recent ops. The team needed to make sure he was ready. The “Golden Boy” looked too well-kempt for Brian’s good. He looked too clean, innocent, and green. Brian didn’t feel right getting the boy’s hands dirty. His short dark hair and smaller build on his solid frame said he still had some work to do before he was allowed out in the field. For now, he was helping Proph with research.

Shockingly enough, Hounder didn’t verbally respond. He just gave the kid a hand gesture. It didn’t stop the kid from continuing to talk shit to the other team members. On their way up, the four of them stated they wanted to do a walkthrough of the offices upon arriving. Brian had a feeling that was going to be put on hold for a few. The additional cars in the lot and around the building said the rest of the team was there, even if not in the offices. He and the other four were walking through the area making observations of the space when a beautiful woman walked out of one of the three grand-scale offices.

“Well, hello there, beautiful. My apologies for staring, but looking at you makes me tongue tied and stupefied.” Hounder leaned in to kiss her hand.

Isabelle rolled her beautiful, crystal blue eyes and almost missed the woman’s response. The woman spin-chopped Hounder’s chest then pressed her leg into his groin as she pushed him into a wall.

“Hello there, handsome. I’m Lieutenant Commander Wellsie Sharp and if you’re working here then you and I will be working together. One thing you should know is that the men I lay with know how to follow orders while still being a man. If you want this, then you need to prove to me that you can be that man, big boy. All this sexy won’t—I do mean won’t—settle for less. Sergeant Major Wallace, I’ll see you in twenty. Have fun boys and lady.”

Wellsie Sharp was the owner of that jasmine oil scent. Her creamy, caramel brown skin and dark brown eyes shined with a softness only she could carry off. Her dark brown, loose curls were wild on this day and fell around her shoulders. Her petite, but well-filled-out frame caused men to underestimate her strength. It was something she used to her advantage on a regular basis. She had assets that filled her out in all of the right places. He was a guy. He wouldn’t be that one if he didn’t notice. Brian began to inform the only other male in the room who didn’t know who she was just who the woman was that had hemmed him up.

“Staff Sergeant Madison, you’ve just met the latest addition to the crew and …”

“The woman that is about to set my life right. I cannot believe she’s been walking the face of the earth and I didn’t know it.”

“Cool your jets there, Tommy. I think we need to discuss the rules of the office.”

“Cut the shit, B. There are no rules. It’s been no-holds-barred, dick-swinging-meets-battle-royale around these parts. You just brought puss one and dangled it like a doggy treat in front of a horny, rabid dog. This shit’s not going to be pulled back any time soon. You might as well step out of the way and let the chips fall where they may. Tell me I can’t go after that and you are just going to make it worse. Let it ride, B.”

City & Suzy are back!

I had everything I ever wanted—a wife, a kid, with two more on the way. I was living the American dream. After the babies were born, we hit a rough patch. I did everything to prove my love, to show Suzy that nothing was more important than her. After some work and a lot of time, we found our groove again. Just when life had evened out, a familiar enemy came back to haunt us. It wasn’t my past that followed us, but my brother’s. When the danger gets too close, I’ll do anything to defend my family. There’s nothing more important than the people I love, and I’ll protect what’s mine—even if it costs me my life.

Excerpt

Suzy glared at me. “What’s this we shit? I’m the one with two aliens inside of me, trying to claw their way out of my body. I’m the only one pushing them out of my tiny vagina. Not you. Not her. Me!” She waved her hands frantically in the air. “I’m the one doing everything while you sit there calm, sexy, and without your body splitting in two. I’m going to be the one tearing wide open as I push two humans and their giant Gallo heads out of my body.” She collapsed, gasping for air, and closed her eyes.

I bit my lip. Pregnant Suzy was unpredictable, but in-labor Suzy was just downright scary. “I know, sugar. You’re doing all the hard work. I’m just here to cheer you on and support you.”

Her nostrils flared and her eyes grew wide when she glanced up. “Support me? If you want to support me, you’ll never knock me up again. You want to cheer me on?” She rolled her eyes and made a noise low in her throat. “Stop fucking talking.”

I braced myself, waiting for her head to do a 360. I brought my mouth right next to her ear. “My sweet little wife, you beg for my cock every day. It takes two to tango, sweetheart. I didn’t put you in that bed.” I lowered my voice further, whispering, “Your sweet little cunt did.”

Review:

5 Stars

***I was gifted an advanced copy of this book  in exchange for and honest review.***

I cannot express in words just how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Bliss hooked me from the very start of the read. I couldn’t believe I was on edge from the very beginning. Loving the devotion and adoration shared between City and Suzy would be putting my feelings lightly. It takes a special kind of male to stick by a woman when she is in the midst of one of the most trying times of her life. In times when she questions her sanity and everything that comes with it having a supportive, loving, and understanding male in her corner can be the catalyst to get her through it.

I devoured this book. The family connections and dynamic had me cracking up. There was a point in the story that had me wanting to take a trip to have a sit-down chat with the author to let her personally know just how I felt about a particular scene that had me crying like a newborn baby.

If you haven’t already set the book to be your next read, I would suggest you rectify that issue as soon as possible.

Thanks to Chelle Bliss for such a worthy read to take my mind off of my many projects and make me smile. It was well worth the time I spent away from my tasks.

Excerpt:

“I was looking for my clothes so I could make my exit. You didn’t leave that information in your note.”
His smile faltered when he looked at what was left of my dress that I’d been wearing the night before. The look he was sporting had me giggling because he looked like a little kid that figured out he shouldn’t roll his toy car in the street with other cars. Very specific example there, might want to get out a bit more, Reign.
“What was that last bit there? What specific example?”
His look and words had me realizing that I hadn’t just thought that, I’d actually spoken that aloud.
“Ha. Yeah, that was in reference to something that I was thinking, which I believed I’d said only in my head. Okay. We’re going to move passed that one. I need to get something from you.”
At his quirked eyebrow and questioning glance, I quickly corrected my statement.
“I mean, I need some clothes or pants. I can’t leave here with just this shirt.”
He gave me an appreciative once over and muttered something to himself. Was he actually attracted to me or just the fact that there was a half-naked woman in front of him? Hold on, or was he recalling something we did last night?
“Did we … did you and I have sex last night?”
My face must’ve reflected the sheer terror that I felt at the possibility that I did something that stupid. I’m a mother. I cannot have idiotic moments like that. The man is “fuck me until I don’t know my own name” hot, but I don’t have time for getting caught up in a moment.
“Relax, Reign. We didn’t do anything.”
My face fell. I was scrutinizing his features as I relaxed about the fact that we hadn’t done anything, but I needed to be sure.
“You’re sure? Nothing, absolutely nothing, happened between the two of us?”
His chest moved up and down as he released a chuckle then an exasperated sigh. His hands moved to his pockets as he responded.
“Reign, I assure you, nothing happened between us last night.”
The way he adamantly spoke told me that he was telling the truth. Now, I felt like a fool because I wanted to know why nothing happened. We were obviously attracted to one another. I mean I was checking him out and he was doing the same. Chewing the inside of my jaw, I thought about last night and tried to remember the details. I really wanted to know why we hadn’t done anything. Since we hadn’t, how in the hell did I end up in his shirt?
“Reign, I can see the cogs of that brain of yours working. There are several reasons why we didn’t do anything. For one, I prefer conscious women when engaging in sexual activity. Call me old fashioned that way. Two, I don’t make it a habit to bring women to this place. It is where I lay my head when I have to work. I left the party last night with you and brought you here. On my way here, I called a doctor friend of mine and she came to check you out. She’s the one that changed your clothes from the ones you got sick all over. FYI, you got mine as well. She helped you clean up and put you in that shirt. Third, she could barely get you out of the clothes you were in. You fought Marlena the entire time. Call me crazy, but I don’t fight women to bed them. I prefer a willing participant.” He smiled then shook his head before adding, “In the spirit of full disclosure, I rifled through your bag to find your phone so I would have your number to call the famous woman who passed out on me last night.”

Sometimes I wish it would rain.

Sometimes I wish it would pour

But most times

I just wish I could learn to soar

I grew up in Detroit, Michigan. My mother’s gypsy nature was something that I inherited and would carry with me the rest of the days of my life. I didn’t think I would become that woman—my mother— but here I stand in front of my old house. I have movers in front of me loading up a truck to take me to my newest digs. I’m excited and nervous all at the same time. This is probably my fifteenth move in my thirty-two years of life. My hope is this is my last. I know my son will be happy if it is. It is his tenth in his minuscule thirteen years of life. I don’t know why I couldn’t set down roots before, but I’m looking forward to not doing the moving thing anymore.

To understand why I am making this next move, one has to know the reasons I’ve made so many before. Strap in, it’s about to get interesting.

For me, that saying of “everything is coming up roses” doesn’t apply. As I stated before, I grew up in Detroit. I was born on one side of the city then was moved to the other. We moved from one place to another most of my life. As a child, I had this idealistic picture of my mother and who she was. My “father” was one that I despised with everything that I was and everything that I am. How he survived as long as he did without one of us taking his life is a true example of the words discipline and self-control. Meaning, it took all of our willpower not to bring harm to him. It was out of respect for our mother that he lived as long as he did.

The man that my mother eventually married tended to get off on tearing down the spirits of those that surrounded him. He had a lasting effect on each of us.

At the age of four, I didn’t know any better. My real father wasn’t part of my life and wouldn’t be for some time later. The man that lay down with my mother to create me is another chapter in my life. He shapes it some years in the future. The man that I knew as my “father” was an all together different breed of man.

I’ve learned that he wasn’t as rare as I thought him to be. I learned that he was part of a group of men that tended to live and get off on snatching happiness from those around them. It’s how I’ve always seen him and probably always will. His attempt to change had come at a time that was too late for him to erase the damage he’d already done.

To say the man was abusive would be putting him into a category that dials down what he was. He was the arbitrator of pain and torture in our household. Hearing my mother’s cries will probably torture me for the rest of my days. I’m sure there were times when we were happy, and I have moments of recollection when we smiled or laughed, but it’s overshadowed by the never-ending oppression of a small-minded little man.

I learned what a crack pipe was at the age of six. By the age of seven, I understood that I had more of an education than the man that was supposed to be my father figure. When I turned eight, I understood the phrase “unfit mother” because my own was brought before me and my younger brother by the man that coaxed her into trying a drug he’d first been selling then was addicted to himself. It would be something that would be his crutch for the rest of his life and hers from that time on.

That year was the game changer for our little unit. My mother stopped singing as much. We walked on eggshells more. Fear became a gripping entity within our home. It was the fifth person that took up residence in the house. There was no longer any freedom to move about as normal individuals. It was life attempting not to “wake the beast” that year and all the years after.
