EK: Thank you so very much for being willing to sign up to do this interview. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know you, share your thoughts, and highlight your work.
EK: What is your pen name?
- Is it different from the name on your birth certificate?
- How did you come up with your pen name?
L.B. Dunbar: My pen name is different than my real name because in my day job I don’t need 400 middle school students befriending me on Facebook. LB was a nickname in high school and encompasses my first name and maiden name.
EK: Does your work fit into one genre? If not, tell us about it. If so, do the same.
L.B. Dunbar: My work general fits the contemporary romance genre. I write small town, sexy sweet; rock star romance and currently, MMA (sports romance).
EK: What is the title of your most recent or upcoming release?
L.B. Dunbar: Paradise Fought: Abel is my most recent work with Paradise Tempted: The Beginning (a prequel) coming out March 3.
EK: What inspired this work?
L.B. Dunbar: Honestly, the Bible. Abel and his brother, Cain, is a rather interesting story. They fought each other historically for love. I love to modernize classic storylines and making them modern MMA fighters seemed like a good fit. Abel, of course, is the lesser son, the second one, and as I love to have the undergo get his happily ever after, his story came first in this duet.
EK: What is your favorite thing about writing?
L.B. Dunbar: My favorite thing about writing is the imagination needed to create a new world. As I love modernizing classics, that’s a thrill for me. Taking a traditional story and making it fit out modern world is geeky fun to me.
EK: Now for the fun stuff …
EK: What is your favorite snack while taking a much needed author break?
L.B. Dunbar: Popcorn. And you have to take a break because I can’t really type and eat, and it gets the keyboard all greasy and salty…not good.
EK: What is one of the craziest things you’ve done in your life?
L.B. Dunbar: Definitely pleading the Fifth on this one…but maybe the fact that I approached the man who inspired my first book, Sound Advice. He lives in a small town and I’ve never actually met him before the book. I felt obligated that he was the secret to any success I had (I mean, he inspired a book), and I tracked him and gave him a book.
EK: The house is on fire, what are you grabbing if your family is safe and sound?
L.B. Dunbar: Nothing. Or maybe my phone to call for help. If my family is safe that is really all I’d worry about.
EK: What is your “go to” movie, book, or show?
L.B. Dunbar: I re-read any book I have loved, but mostly I re-read historical fiction novels, especially Sarah MacLean’s work. That would be my go-to.
EK: Who is one of your favorite authors? Why?
L.B. Dunbar: Sarah MacLean…LOL…I also love Jay Crownover, BN Toler, Kate Roth, Michelle Warren.
EK: Bonus => Have you ever read a book that had you questioning why you were having such a reaction to fictional characters? What book was it?
L.B. Dunbar: Bang by E.K. Blair was just a very upsetting book for me. But I was a long time Twilighter back in the day, so that book was one that haunted me. I was obsessed! TeamEdward (Me too!!!)
