Sacrificed by Nykki Mills – Kendra’s Review

I won a copy of this book from the author (thanks again!)

3.75-4 out of 5*

***Mature YA. Some swearing and violence***
Sixteen year old Kassandra Stathos has the cookie cutter life. Amazing and supportive parents, the star quarterback for a boyfriend. There’s only one thing she doesn’t have—the ability to feel fear.

All that is about to change.

When Kass starts seeing things that no one else does—the little girl that seems hell bent on showing her things—disturbing things—her perfectly constructed life begins to crumble around her. Until someone long forgotten crashes back into her life.

Ian was sent away after his mother’s tragic suicide, and since he’s been back he’s the only one who believes Kass’ wild stories. He always seems to be there when she needs him. But does Ian have secrets of his own, and does his reemergence in her life have something to do with what is happening to her? As the haunting and violence increase she knows time is running out; she has no choice but to search for answers. Starting with who this girl is and how she connected to her.

She could have never prepared herself for the shocking secrets hidden behind the mirage of a perfect life—Secrets that threaten to shatter everything she has ever known. She’s left to fight not just for her sanity, but her life.

I really enjoyed this book. I was in a total slump when I read it and this really brought me out of my not being able to concentrate on anything. The storyline was new and addressed, in a roundabout way, stressful and possibly hard topics, like children being in situations where they block out pieces of their past, in order to protect themselves.

There were things that just threw me out of the story, mostly grammatical things that were not consistent throughout, or that even on a 4th or 5th run through, might be easily missed (Chances not Chance’s, fifty after five instead of ten til six, etc.)

The twist that came was unexpected to me, I was thinking in a different direction altogether. Overall, I think it was a good story and I (for the most part) liked the MCs and supporting characters, and I think once it’s cleaned up, grammatically speaking, that it will be a 5* book.
